Penny is an AI team memory made by Mintry Software, Inc. A team that uses Penny can connect its Slack channels, Telegram groups and other sources. Those chats often include people who never signed up for Penny: colleagues, clients, contractors. This page is for them.
- What Penny does in a chat. It remembers the messages and files so the team that connected the chat can search them and ask about them. Messages are processed by AI models, which do not keep them or train on them.
- Penny says so. When the Penny bot joins a Telegram group, it posts a notice there that the chat is being remembered and how to opt out. In Slack, Penny does not post in channels by itself; it sends the person who connected the channels that notice to share with the people in them. Every answer Penny posts in a chat is marked as an AI answer that may be wrong.
- Anyone in the chat can ask Penny, and everyone in the chat sees its answers, which can include information from the team's other chats and sources, unless the team has limited that chat's answers to the chat itself.
- The team decides. The team that connected the chat is the controller of what Penny keeps; Mintry processes it for them. See the Privacy Policy, section 4.
- Meeting attendees. When a team member connects their Google Calendar, Penny keeps the meetings they choose to share, including the name and email address of each attendee, so the team can see who met whom and when (an attendee's email links them to the same person in the team's chats). A private event is kept only as a busy time, with no title and no attendees. Declined meetings are not kept. To have your address removed, see "How to get your data removed" below.
How to get your data removed
- In the chat: send
/forgetme(Telegram) or/penny forgetme(Slack). Penny stops remembering your messages in that chat and deletes what it stored from you there within 24 hours (30 days at the latest). - Ask a chat admin to remove Penny. Removing the bot (or uninstalling the Slack app) deletes everything Penny stored from that chat within 24 hours.
- Ask the team. The team that connected the chat decides what Penny keeps (it is the "controller"; Mintry is its "processor"). Ask a team member or the chat admin to remove Penny or delete your data.
- Write to Mintry at privacy@ipenny.app, with the platform, chat or channel
name, your username or email, and what you want (a copy, a correction, deletion, or to object). Mintry will:
- acknowledge within 5 business days;
- verify you (for example, by a code the bot sends you, or an email from the address concerned);
- forward the request to the team within 5 business days and tell you which team it went to (by team name only if the team agrees; otherwise "the team that connected" the chat you named);
- carry out the team's instruction, or, for opt-outs and deletions the platform's terms require (Telegram, Slack), carry them out directly;
- if no team can be identified or the team does not respond within 30 days, disable the source for that chat and tell you.
- If you attended a meeting in a member's Google Calendar: ask that member to stop sharing the calendar, or write to Mintry as in step 4 with the email address concerned. Penny then stops storing that address for the team (an opt-out by email, which covers its Gmail mailboxes too) and deletes the attendee rows it has for it.
- Complain to a data-protection authority, if you are not satisfied.
